Lee Hyori's lack of plans for marriage garners backlash

I feel like netizens have a love/hate relationship with Lee Hyori. While they support and praise any of her charity and musical endeavours, they're quick to fire shots at her whenever she goes into political topics. She received similar backlash during the election, with netizens basically telling her that she's in no position to be meddling in politics as a celebrity.

She was asked by reporters at Um Tae Woong's wedding whether she had any plans for marriage herself and she replied, "The president herself hasn't gotten married yet and I don't feel the rush to need to yet either." Some netizens thought she was taking a jab at Park Geun Hye.

1. [+1,032, -195] She's just making a comparison, I don't know why they made the title seem as if she was making a political statement ㅡㅡ

2. [+726, -363] Sounds like Lee Sang Soon is not the man she wants to marry?

3. [+313, -206] Lee Hyori has a way of turning people off with her words

4. [+267, -167] Practice your singing in the time you have to tweet

5. [+203, -114] Does she think she's on the same level as the president?ㅡㅡ

6. [+728, -645] What does the president being single have anything to do with you?

7. [+172, -81] It'd be a lie if she didn't have any political intentions behind that statement

8. [+196, -107] ㅋㅋ What does her not getting married have anything to do with you? Why don't you quit Twitter in that time...

9. [+156, -74] How dare this entertainment clown compare herself to the president ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

10. [+151, -60] Stop talking as if you know anything, you're getting lame

Article: Lee Hyori clarifies "Take a jab at? I just said it to be funny because I was tired of answering the same question"

Source: TV Report via Nate

1. [+374, -146] Why are people acting as if Park Geun Hye being single is something no one can talk about? She's not Voldemort, you know

2. [+279, -174] That's fine and all but don't drop other people's names into what you say. It pisses me off when people act like they're saying something to be funny and treat anyone that doesn't think it's funny as a loser.

3. [+225, -158] She chose the wrong person to compare herself to

4. [+107, -61] Probably not a jab but just something she said without thinking

5. [+58, -22] It was obviously meant as a jab, otherwise why would she have used the president as a comparison? Didn't she know it'd be controversial?

  2. sigh~ she's only using another powerful woman as an example that you can do it and be successful without marriage. more like some netizens are quick to jump to their own conclusions and make it about politics.

  3. Leave her alone. Hyori is not even that old. She'll get married when she wants to and if she doesn't whatever. It's her life! Her choice!

  4. haha, i see you already applied my first suggestion and so quickly indeed :)

  5. I feel like K netizens lack common sense. What the actual fuck is the water in South Korea?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Well netizens think what they say is always right and what others say is wrong.

  7. Politics is never a good place to voice opinions because people tend to be divided among issues that they are the most passionate about. Celebs should stay clear of politics no matter how well intentioned their actions or opinions may be, especially if they would like to keep an image and perception of themselves that appeals to everyone.

  8. I was hoping that her relationship with that gorilla wasn't permanent. His face even made her mom cry. She needs a husband with superior genes. Not the trash she's dating now.

  9. wtf they act as if she went ahead and said 'the president is a virgin, so am i'

  16. it's not the first time for lee hyori ....she is good enterainer but she doesn't have control over her mouth and she is blunt and i don't think this is last time speaking out of place...may be in a positive way you can say she says on the face and has a straight-forward personality....but more often than out is a great disturbances for others.....but she is stubborn at the same and she will not change it for anyone so this type of jabs will keep coming so it's better to ignore becoz there is no solution to it....she has criticised heavily in the past but still no changes...what hurts though being one of the most famous divas of k-pop still she doesn't put an effort to speak responsibly.....

    LOL I like this comment.
They really need to learn to chill out whenever someone reference a political figure or topic. They have no sense of humor.

  18. Single or not.. who cares? Hyori can decide over her own live, can't she?

    ReplyDelete
  19. exactly! park geun hye made it to the highest position possible without the support of a man, it isn't too late for lee hyori. she can support herself well anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  20. i think she's just sick of people asking her the same question over and over again

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't feel this was really a 'political' statement at all. If anything, I would view it more like feminism?
Hyori is just stating 'look, women don't need marriage to go on with their lives. If the president can be a single woman, why not me?' She wasn't saying she was better than Park Geun Hye, or even meddling in politics. Hyori was making a point about societal norms?

  22. "1. [+374, -146] Why are people acting as if Park Geun Hye being single is something no one can talk about? She's not Voldemort, you know" who shall not be named! loooool.

  23. They need to pipe the fuck down tbh. Celebrities are still citizens, they should be able to talk about politics like everyone else. Politicians suck balls anyway.

  24. Trash, and you still manage to be lower then him, creep.

  25. Sometimes I wonder what's in American food when they american netizens say dumb shit

  26. geez! this crazy woman!!!!!!!! it may be funny that she knows how to run her mouth on variety shows but in the real world, hyori dear, you should keep your mouth on lock. how can you compare yourself to the president? that poor woman has so many personal issues i am not surprised that she has a history of locking herself away and being celibate. as for two 'powerful women', what a stupid thing to say when people do not know either of these two women. i personally feel real bad for the current female president. hyori has officially taken her place in the 'shindong category'.

    ReplyDelete
  27. LOL. A+ for the Harry Potter reference.

    ReplyDelete
  28. isn't park geun hye (and her party) extremely conservative? I hope people aren't praising her simply because she's a woman. sarah palin was also a woman..

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sarah Palin never got the chance to be president. Or vice president.

    ReplyDelete
  30. the fact that she was even in the running was scary enough

  31. dude get off the internet. no one likes you.

you need to buy a better dictionary

    ReplyDelete
  34. lol NB you're acting all desperate for views just like AKP
you're title is sooooo misleading, you know the backlash is because of her comparison with the president and NOT because she doesn't want to get married.

  35. Good thing I'm not American.

    ROFL xD

    4. [+107, -61] Probably not a jab but just something she said without thinking

    ^
Agreed. She probably just said something she thought of at that moment without thinking twice and didn't expect to get this kind of backlash.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Idk but kpop fans mention murrica so often so my comments about the fat country are still related to what kpop fans are saying.

still don't get how that makes me a koreaboo when I make fun of most idols and their shitty music all the time and even if I like some songs I refrain from praising them because I don't want to look like a nasty fangirl ewww

    ReplyDelete
  45. Go and talk your garbage on non american kpop sites then. go talk about how much you hate americans there.
If you hate us so much stop coming on these sites.
    Have a good day.
